The Art of Bench Inspirations

We believe in the artistic freedom of the luthier to build instruments with their own identity.

The art of Bench Inspirations refers to the meticulous process of studying an original masterpiece, but not to create an exact replica of the historical instrument. It’s rather to craft a violin, viola or violoncello that is inspired by and reflects the beauty and essence of the original. We believe in the artistic freedom of the luthier to build instruments with their own identity. Only this caliber of instrument making can endure through time and create a unique language that continues the canon and legacy of the old masters. The goal is to recreate the appearance and the sound and feel of the original instrument. This includes wood selection, varnish, dimensions, signs of wear and aging.

— Detailed Study —

The luthier spends considerable time examining the original instrument, often a masterpiece by renowned makers like Antonio Stradivari or Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù, to understand its construction, materials, and tonal qualities.

— Craftsmanship —

Creating a Bench Inspiration requires an exceptional level of skills, as the luthier must use traditional techniques and tools to recreate the original craftsmanship. The luthier works alongside the original instrument at their workbench, hence the term Bench Inspiration.
